As you age, your body changes and you could experience a change that brings discomfort or insecurity. Breast implants are a common procedure for aging women, and similarly, scrotal lift surgery is often performed on our male patients.

Scrotal lift surgery is a simple procedure with minimal scarring and a fast recovery time. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort or feel self-conscious about the changes you see in your scrotum, with sagging and excess skin, scrotal lift surgery resolves these problems. Dr. Repta has performed many scrotal lift procedures, so you can be assured that your treatment will be performed with the highest level of surgical skill.

Why get a scrotal lift procedure?

There are many reasons why patients choose to undergo a scrotal lift surgery. Some of the most common are:

  • Sagging in the scrotum due to aging
  • Pain or discomfort from excess skin and sagging
  • Embarrassment about the appearance of the scrotum

While many patients who elect to get a scrotal lift surgery are older, some young patients find that the natural shape of their scrotum has left them feeling less confident in intimate situations. Scrotal lift procedures are not just cosmetic, they can also be functional. Patients who undergo scrotal lift surgery find that after their procedure, they are more comfortable, and issues of pinching or chafing are resolved.

Some patients experience pain during ejaculation related to scrotum shape, which can often be treated and resolved with scrotal lift surgery. Other patients find that they experience more comfort during exercise after undergoing a scrotal lift surgery.

The Procedure

Am I a candidate for scrotal lift surgery?

If you feel that a sagging scrotum is a problem, either in intimate situations, during exercise, or just in daily life, you may want to consider a scrotal lift procedure.

The first step is to determine if you have any other medical problems that may be causing scrotal pain. If you are in good health and have no other medical problem causing pain or discomfort in the area, you are likely a good candidate for scrotal lift surgery.

If you are considering scrotal lift surgery, you can arrange a private consultation with to analyze your individual case and advise you if this procedure is right for you.

How is the Procedure Done?

Scrotal lift surgery may be performed under general anesthetic or with a local anesthetic, depending on the individual. The procedure lasts from 30 minutes to an hour. During the procedure, the doctor will make an incision in the skin. This will allow the doctor to remove some of the excess skin that contributes to sagging, and lift the scrotum to a younger, higher position. Generally, the incision will be made down the center of the scrotum, where there is already a line where the two sides of the scrotum meet. This technique allows for minimal scarring. In more extreme cases, an incision might be made at the bottom of the scrotum.

What Can I Expect During My Recovery?

Recovery time from scrotal lift surgery varies from patient to patient, but you can expect to return to your regular activities within a matter of weeks.

Within 4-5 days, you should be able to return to work. You may experience some swelling or bruising. You should limit physical activity and sexual activity until your stitches have fully healed.

A Word From Dr. Repta: The Man Lift

The “Man Lift” is a surgical procedure designed to lift and re-shape the scrotum. The procedure allows correction of an excessively loose or low-hanging scrotum. There are a variety of reasons that the size and shape of the scrotum may be of concern for some men.

An excessively loose or low hanging scrotum may result in:

  • Pain associated with the tension placed on the testicular cord
  • Pain or discomfort associated with certain activities including sex, bike/motorcycle riding, and sitting down in general
  • Dissatisfaction with the length of the scrotum and the limitation to comfortably wear certain clothes
  • Dissatisfaction with the appearance of the penis as a result of a low hanging scrotum. A low hanging scrotum may also pull the penis skin down toward the tip making the penis look smaller and less aesthetically pleasing
  • Dissatisfaction with one testicle hanging significantly lower than the other

The Man Lift procedure can correct these issues by allowing the removal of excess skin from the scrotum. The procedure is custom tailored to correct the specific shape issues and goals of the patient. The Man Lift procedure is an outpatient procedure that takes about an hour.

Recovery following The Man Lift procedure is as follows:

  • Off of work for a week
  • Return to light activity in 2-3 weeks
  • Return to exercise/full activity in 4-6 weeks
