Your hair restoration method should be as unique as you are. Each patient has a different pattern of thinning hair, and each hair restoration treatment has its own advantages. Our staff is here to help you understand the various available methods of hair restoration and guide you through your journey to fuller, thicker hair.

Common Hair Restoration Methods

There are surgical and non-surgical methods commonly used to restore hair. These include:

PRP Hair Restoration

One of the most exciting advancements in non-surgical hair restoration, PRP hair restoration is non-surgical and noninvasive. PRP for hair loss involves drawing a small sample of blood. The blood sample is then placed in a centrifuge to concentrate the natural growth factors. These growth factors are what stimulate cell generation and healing. This treatment can halt hair shedding, and reverse the miniaturization of hairs found in male and female hair loss, with natural hair strands becoming thicker and healthier.

Once the concentrated blood product is prepared, it is injected into the area where more hair growth is needed. Over time, your hair follicles may produce thin, weak hair or go dormant, no longer producing hair at all. The PRP stimulates the inactive hair follicles to enter the active growth phase once again. The procedure is a relatively quick and painless and an alternative to surgery. The results are natural, as it is your own hair follicles getting to work again, and new hair blends with your remaining hair.

FUT Hair Restoration

Known as “The Strip Method,” Follicular Unit Transplantation begins by harvesting a small strip of hair follicles from a donor site, usually at the back of the head. The strip is then dissected under a microscope to separate individual hair follicles, which are then transplanted to thinning areas.

This method typically takes longer to heal than other methods as the donor site requires an incision and sutures after the strip of hair follicles is removed. After the procedure, the patient will not be able to have a shorter haircut as the harvest site scar will be visible.

FUE Hair Transplants

Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE hair restoration is a procedure that harvests hair follicles which are then transplanted to thinning areas of the scalp (or face). FUE utilizes a specially-designed device that harvests one hair follicle at a time to be transplanted to the treatment area. The precise instrument “micro-punches” each follicle, and does not require a strip being removed from the back of your scalp.

The lack of incisions means that recovery time after FUE is faster than with FUT procedures. Both FUT and FUE procedures produce visible results in three to four months. The viability of transplanted hair follicles can vary.

Recovery After Hair Restoration

The PRP procedure has the shortest recovery time. Patients can return to their usual activities after this minimally-invasive procedure. Patients can even resume their normal haircare routine the very next day, including applying topical creams like minoxidil to further stimulate hair growth or prevent hair loss. Your treatment plan will be customized to suit your individual hair loss, and may include the use of prescription cream, foam, and PRP injections used in combination.

The FUT procedure has a longer recovery time, and patients can typically expect to take 2 to 3 days off work and other strenuous activities while incisions heal. You can gently wash your hair, being careful near the incision. You can expect to be fully healed after 2 to 3 weeks.

Finally, the FUE hair restoration procedure is less invasive than FUT hair restoration, and has a shorter recovery time. Because there are no incisions or sutures, this procedure is easier to tolerate. You can immediately resume your usual activities, although there may be swelling and bruising at the treatment sites.
