FAQ

Am I a good candidate for hair restoration?

Almost any man or woman who is experiencing hair loss could be a good candidate for hair restoration. Good candidates are living with mild to moderate thinning or patchy hair on their scalp or their facial hair (beard, mustache, or eyebrows). Dr. Repta’s non-surgical method uses your body’s own growth factors, eliminating the risk of infection and making it one of the most innovative and effective hair restoration treatments available today.

Am I a candidate for hair restoration?

Young men and women who are experiencing hair loss may not be advised to undergo one of the standard hair transplant procedures. For these more invasive treatments, it is often advised that you wait until your hair thinning has stabilized a surgical hair restoration. PRP hair restoration stimulates dormant hair follicles to once again produce hair, and is one of the most exciting advances in hair restoration technology, appropriate for most patients, other than a few rare medical conditions, all of which will be checked for prior to treatment.

What hair restoration methods are available?

There are three different forms of hair restoration:

  • Medications like minoxidil can slow the progress of hair loss by applying a foam or cream to the thinning or balding areas. There are also prescription medications like Propecia (taken orally) that work to help you retain hair. These medications may be prescribed for patients who are experiencing a mild degree of hair loss, or can be used as a preventative measure to the slow progression of thinning and balding.
  • PRP hair restoration is the method performed by Dr. Repta. It involves taking a sample of your blood and isolating the blood’s growth factors, which are then injected into the targeted zones on your scalp or face. The concentrated growth factors naturally present in your blood stimulate inactive hair follicles to start the growth phase once again.
  • Hair transplants involve taking individual hair follicles from a donor site and placing them in the thinning or patchy areas of your skin. This can be repeated tens or hundreds of times in one treatment session depending on the size of the area and density of hair. These procedures are more invasive and may require harvesting a strip of healthy scalp from the back of the head, and limit the type of haircut you can have in the future.

What is PRP?

PRP is “platelet-rich plasma.” It is a concentrated serum created by separating a sample of your blood in a centrifuge to concentrate the growth factors, which work to stimulate natural regeneration and healing. PRP is now employed in a variety of cosmetic and medical procedures, and can produce dramatic improvements in hair growth by triggering dormant hair follicles grow new hair.

What are the advantages of non-surgical hair restoration?

You will not need incisions or sutures in this non-surgical hair restoration procedure, which drastically reduces recovery time. You can resume work or other activities right away, making the procedure easy to fit into your schedule. The procedure uses your own cells for treatment, making it an all-natural way to stimulate hair growth. It is safe, and eliminates the risk of rejection or other complications as the PRP is a perfect match – your own cells.

Is hair restoration painful?

PRP hair restoration is not painful. For some patients, a topical anesthetic can be used for your comfort during the injections, but most patients find the procedure tolerable even without anesthetic. We work with each patient to ensure safety and comfort throughout the procedure.

How long will I need to recover after hair restoration?

You will need very little time to recover. You may opt to take the rest of the day to relax and let any initial redness subside, but you can quickly resume work and other activities with no visible signs that you had a cosmetic procedure.

Will my results look natural?

As it is your own hair follicles, the results look completely natural. Whether you have hair restoration on your scalp or your facial hair, Dr. Repta can help you achieve natural-looking results.

Will I need multiple treatments?

Patients who have PRP hair restoration treatments may need to have annual treatments to maintain healthy hair. We can advise you about your individual case, and what to expect regarding the needed frequency of PRP hair restoration treatments.
