Rediscover Your Youth with a Facelift

A facelift is for those who desire a more youthful and revitalized appearance. Whether you're looking to combat signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin, redefine your jawline, or regain lost facial volume, a facelift can help you achieve your cosmetic goals. It's the go-to option for individuals seeking a boost in self-confidence or preparing for special occasions, ensuring you look and feel your best.

What is a Facelift?

Dr. Repta will start with a thorough consultation with you. Dr. Repta will carefully examine your face, study your skin type, take photographs, and discuss your expectations about the surgery, including target areas such as wrinkles, sagging cheeks or jowls and excess skin and fat on the neck.

When you are ready to move forward, the first step of the procedure is general anesthesia. From that point, Dr. Repta will make incisions around the forehead, behind the ear, and inside the hairline. Dr. Repta uses a unique approach to create firmer and more refined facial contours by sculpting and repositioning the tissue of your face and lifting the muscle. When this is complete, he will drape the skin over the facial contours, trim any excess skin and close the incisions.

Facelift Terminology

During your consultation, you will learn about every stage of facelift surgery and the techniques that will allow you to achieve your unique goals. Dr. Repta believes that educating his patients is essential and a powerful way to achieve superior outcomes. You may hear or read any of these words when investigating facelift surgery:

  • Jowls: This term refers to the drooping skin, tissue, and fat around the jawline and cheeks. Factors like aging, diminished collagen production, genetics, and sun exposure contribute to the development of jowls.
  • Marionette lines are pronounced lines stretching from the mouth corners onto the jawline, attributed to the loss of facial volume, which can appear like the mouth structure on a marionette puppet.
  • Glabellar lines: Often referred to as "frown lines," these are the vertical creases or wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows. They can become more pronounced due to repetitive facial expressions, such as frowning or squinting, and with age.
  • SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System): A pivotal component of the face's structure, the SMAS is a muscle layer connecting the facial and neck muscles to the overlying skin. Its elasticity loss can lead to facial sagging, giving an aged look.
  • Nasolabial folds: Originating from the nostrils and culminating at the mouth corners, these folds, often called "smile lines," become deeply etched into the skin as the years pass.
  • Fat grafting: This innovative technique involves transferring healthy, live fat cells from one body area to another. Natural fat grafting replenishes facial volume to create a youthful, fuller, softer look.
  • Rhytidectomy: The medical term for facelift surgery.
  • Mid-facelift: This procedure addresses the middle section of the face, including the cheeks and under-eye area.
  • Deep plane facelift: Going beyond the superficial layers, a deep plane facelift targets the deeper structural tissues of the face, particularly beneath the SMAS layer. This technique offers a comprehensive lift, addressing sagging around the cheeks, jowls, and neck with longer-lasting and more natural-looking results.

Dr. Repta and his professional, dedicated team are dedicated to providing a transparent, informed patient experience.

Who is a candidate for a facelift?

Any man or woman who wants to look younger and enjoy a more sculpted, contoured face may be a good candidate for this procedure. You may be a candidate for a facelift if you:

  • Do not smoke
  • Are generally in good health
  • Are not suffering from medical conditions
  • Are realistic in your expectations of what this procedure can do for you

Other Types of Facelifts

There are a number of different types of facelifts that can be done. Each type achieves similar effects but varies in terms of how dramatic the improvements are and how long they last.

Mini Facelift

This procedure can create a more uplifted, smoother appearance. It is generally done on patients whose signs of aging are not as severe, but can also be done at any age. The mini-facelift targets minimal or moderate skin sagging, early jowls, and excess skin.

SMAS Facelift

SMAS, or Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, refers to the system of muscles deep in the mid and lower face. As you age, gravity can cause these muscles to droop. The SMAS facelift addresses both the top layers of sagging skin and the muscular structure itself. This lifts the mid and lower face, giving significant results--a firmer, more youthful face and neck.

Deep Plane Facelift

The deep plane facelift is a facelift technique that is best suited for patients with a relatively long and thin facial structure. This advanced facelift method involves repositioning soft facial tissue by lifting the entire structure of the face, rather than just the outer layers of skin. The deep plane facelift is known for its ability to achieve dramatic, natural-looking results when compared to other facelift techniques. This procedure is often a good choice for individuals experiencing more severe signs of facial aging.

Non-Surgical Facelift

This type of facelift is nonsurgical. It’s called a liquid facelift because it incorporates specially-designed combinations of facial fillers and skin injections (liquids) to contour the jawline and provide volume to the cheeks. Wrinkles and fine lines are targeted as well. Liquid facelifts often also involve laser treatments, microneedling, or fat transfer into the cheeks. Depending on the fillers used, the results can last between six months to over one year.

How much does a facelift cost in Scottsdale?

The cost of facelift surgery depends on what type of facelift is involved. A facelift technically involves the area between the jawline and the temple. The tissue below the jaw line is taken care of as part of a neck lift. The combination of a facelift and necklift is needed to rejuvenate the actual "face". A facelift and necklift combination procedure will range between 20k and 50K depending on what is needed to accomplish the desired result. Additional neck contouring needs, such as submandibular gland resection, adds to the complexity of the procedure and also increases cost. A facelift and necklift procedure does not automatically include facial fat transfer which is often a helpful adjunct to facial rejuvenation. Facial fat transfer can be added during a facelift and necklift procedure.

Preparing for facelift surgery

During the preparation for your procedure, we will work with you to ensure you know everything you need to and are completely ready. You will have a medical evaluation, potentially making adjustments to medications you might be taking. We will ask you to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, and herbal supplements, all of which can increase bleeding and bruising. Patients who smoke cigarettes will be required to stop smoking for two weeks prior to surgery and for the duration of recovery, as it constricts blood vessels and reduces regenerative oxygen supplies within the body.

Facelift Recovery and results

You will be able to go home with a friend or family member on the day of your surgery. Within a few days of your facelift in Scottsdale, Dr. Repta will remove the bandages on your face. You will experience bruising and swelling for 2-3 weeks, but you will be able to get around and feel better within a few days of the procedure. You will be able to resume most of your usual activities in 1-2 weeks and exercise vigorously again within 2-4 weeks.

Dr. Repta will see you several times during the first few weeks after your procedure. He will remove the stitches, check in on your healing progress, and ensure you are doing well as you recover.

The results of a facelift are often quite dramatic, leaving you looking naturally revitalized, younger, and refreshed. This significant improvement may last for ten years or longer, depending on which type of facelift you undergo.

Facelift FAQs

How long is facelift surgery?

A facelift is usually completed in 2-3 hours.

Will there be scars after a facelift?

Yes, but Dr. Repta ensures these are minimal, artfully hiding them in the hair and the natural folds of the skin.

What will the recovery be like after a facelift?

You will be able to get around on your own within a few days. There will be 2-3 weeks of bruising and swelling. You will be able to exercise vigorously again within 2-4 weeks.

Will the recovery be painful?

Yes, because the surgery is somewhat involved. This can be treated with medication and it is temporary.

What is a facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure done to reduce the signs of aging on the skin and neck, leaving the contours firmer and younger looking.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for a facelift?

If you have sagging, aging features on your face and neck, you may be a candidate.

What will happen during the facelift procedure?

As a first step, you will be put under anesthesia. An incision will be made behind and slightly in front of your ears.
