A 360 upper body lift treats loose skin around the full circumference of the upper torso by combining a reverse tummy tuck with a Bra Line Back Lift™. A breast lift may also be included when sagging or excess breast skin is part of the concern. Instead of correcting the abdomen, back, or breasts separately, the surgery can reshape several connected areas in one plan.
Dr. Remus Repta performs this procedure at Repta Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, AZ. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon and member of the American and International Society of Plastic Surgeons. He’s also a published author who has written about tummy tuck and body-shaping techniques in plastic surgery publications.
How Does a 360 Upper Body Lift Work?
Loose skin after major weight changes or aging doesn’t always stop at one part of your torso. You might have lax skin above the belly button along with folds across the upper back or sides of the chest.
The reverse tummy tuck treats the front of the upper torso. Unlike a traditional tummy tuck, which generally uses a lower abdominal incision, a reverse tummy tuck typically places the incision in the natural folds beneath the breasts. The upper abdominal skin is lifted upward, and excess tissue is removed.
The Bra Line Back Lift™ continues the correction around the back. Excess skin and tissue along the bra line are removed, and liposuction may be used for bulging fat in the area. The incision runs across the back and can usually be concealed beneath a bra or similar clothing.
Together, these procedures help create a smoother transition from the upper abdomen around the sides and across the back.
When Is a Breast Lift Included?
A 360 upper body lift doesn’t automatically include breast surgery. When breast sagging is present, however, adding a breast lift can reshape and elevate your natural breast tissue while the surrounding torso is being corrected.
Dr. Repta uses several breast lift techniques depending on the degree of sagging and excess skin. Some require an incision around the areola, while others extend vertically or along the breast fold.
Including a breast lift may make sense when correcting the torso alone would leave the breasts out of proportion with the newly reshaped upper body.
Who Might Consider a 360 Upper Body Lift?
This combination can be considered when loose skin affects both the front and back of your upper torso, particularly after significant weight loss. Your anatomy determines which procedures belong in your plan.
Because several areas may be treated during the same surgery, recovery also depends on the exact combination performed. Dr. Repta will discuss incision placement, activity restrictions, healing, and which components make sense after examining your abdomen, back, and breasts.
