Taking Time for You
As we approach this holiday weekend, I have been reflecting on areas of my life worth celebrating, and I am feeling so honored and blessed for the people and things in my life that continuously enhance my daily experience. I have been looking inward at choices I’ve made that have led me to where I am today, but most importantly, I ask myself what choices can I make from here on out that will nurture my body and help me feel more youthful and vibrant.
I have always been driven to a fault. I have not let myself have any breaks for the past few years, and, as I think about my choices, I wonder why? What’s the point of not taking any down time for myself? Do I feel like I will be more successful? Will I make more money? Will working non-stop make me a better person? The answer to all of these questions is “No”. Taking time for ourselves is the most important thing we can do to get re-centered and grounded. It helps us rejuvenate and it helps us feel more peace because we have balance. And, if we have any stress at all around our careers or day to day duties, taking breaks often will make us more productive when we do need to focus on work, chores, kids, etc. I can tell you that grinding non-stop at 100mph will only age our beautiful bodies, and will make us look and feel tired and worn out. So, I am making a “half-way through the year resolution”… To nurture my body, mind, and spirit and take some days off every now and then. The excitement I am feeling about having a long weekend to play and rest makes me remember what it was like to be a kid- Free!
It’s important, too, to realize that taking breaks doesn’t necessarily have to cost a lot of money. Staycations are a great way to focus on something different that brings you joy and is less expensive than regular vacations. Read a book, watch movies, get a massage, take a walk, participate in your favorite form of exercise, take naps. These are just a few ideas to mix up the daily pattern of normal activities that can become tedious and feel like a grind. I am proud of myself for making a commitment to be more relaxed and rested. I have no doubt that I will look and feel younger for much longer by taking such good care of myself now. I hope you all have a beautiful 4th of July weekend and give yourselves a huge hug!
